SUMMARY - Co-Occurring Program Counselor
The ideal Co-Occurring Program Counselor at CenterPointe, under the direct supervision of the Service Coordinator, is responsible for: assisting clients recovering from the effects of alcohol/drug detoxification and withdrawal in a non-threatening, comfortable and supportive setting. The Program Counselor carries at least a case load of ten clients varying from both detoxification and residential levels of care and helps them to learn the tools of recovery through group process and individual sessions. Clients are given individualized treatment plans and are assessed to see what they need to gain the most out of treatment and are offered further care by referring them to aftercare options such as halfway houses, intensive outpatient programs and counseling for emotional and mental needs.
This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
REQUIREMENTS - Co-Occurring Program Counselor
Education/Knowledge: Must have at least a Bachelor's degree in a health-related field of counseling, psychology, social work, or sociology from an accredited college or university or LADAC license with three to five years experience.
Experience: Experience in a residential setting or equivalent environment.
Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.
Physical: Normal residential treatment setting. Close eye work for writing and computer work. Staff will possibly perform, including but not limited to: lift up to 50 Ibs. pushing and pulling up to 150 Ibs frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, participating in client activities. To ensure the safety of the clients and staff, this position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques (Handle with Care) that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, going down on knees, running, and walking.
Compensation: Starting salary for this position is approximately $ 13.88 /hr based on relevant experience and education.
