The Adolescent Prevention Specialist

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

Summary of role of team:

  • Provides Botvin evidence based Life Skills Training Program and Strengthening Families program to schools, after school programs, and community partners on a daily basis.
  • Completes grant required documentation and attendance weekly for each client served.
  • Inputs and reviews data in program spreadsheet each month.
  • Creates and maintains relationships with community partners.

Summary of position:

  • Provides assessment, referral, and support though school programs, after school programs and evening programs for elementary through high school students in Knox and surrounding counties.
  • The Prevention Specialist utilizes the Life Skills Training and Strengthening Families curriculum, both evidence-based programs, to develop and implement program activities.
  • The Prevention Specialist documents all program activity and provides reports and records to contract authorities on a quarterly basis.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

  • Position primarily operates in office but may operate in the community/schools based on client and group needs.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

COMPENSATION:

  • Starting salary for this position is approximately $18.10 /hr based on relevant experience and education.

Schedule:

  • In-person daily attendance required.
  • Non-traditional schedule with some groups going until 7:30 PM.

Travel:

  • Must be capable of driving a car and using your personal vehicle to commute to group locations in multiple counties.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's License and proof of insurance.

Equipment/Technical Competency:

  • Daily use of computer required.
  • Must be able to send emails, compose professional documents, and maintain/track data in spreadsheets.
  • Also required to use office phone on daily basis to answer calls and return voicemails.

QUALIFICATIONS - Adolescent Prevention Specialist

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Must have experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse.
  • Prior experience working with adolescents preferred.

Education / License:

  • Bachelor's degree and experience in working with children and adolescents.
  • All staffing and supervision will follow guidelines stated in the SSOC guidelines.
  • Staff training will include the 24 areas required by SSOC.
  • Knowledge in infant and childhood development, family dynamics, mental disorders and the common psychological traits associated with the target population.
  • Knowledge of behavior management/modification is required.
  • Familiarity with common psychological issues associated with the target population.

Physical/Emotional/Social - Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work in order to achieve multiple goals.
  • Ability to relate and work well with the public and other professionals.
  • Ability to present ideas/information clearly and effectively.
  • Outpatient/Community based environment.
  • Must be capable of assisting in utilizing non- violent methods of crisis intervention including therapeutic holding.
  • Must have mental ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure.
  • Must be adhere to agency guidelines regarding background checks and screenings.
