The Ideal BASIC Counselor provides assessment, advocacy, referral, early intervention, supportive counseling, training and other identified support to individuals within designated Project BASIC sites. Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing intensive services to program consumers, primarily in a school-based setting.  Responds to school needs including ACE's training, mental health symptoms and resources.  Main linkage between student's needs and community resources.  Provides education on social and emotional learning to students, teachers and staff grades pre k thru 3rd grade.

COMPENSATION: Starting salary for this position is approximately $15.78 /hr based on relevant experience and education.

Travel: This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment. An F Endorsement is required as staff members may be required to provide transportation in their personal vehicle. Staff members are reimbursed for use of their vehicle for this purpose.

Equipment/Technology: This position does require basic computer skills for emails, timekeeping, scheduling and use of electronic medical records entry, and experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Outlook). Must maintain a personal phone and accept business/client related calls as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS - BASIC Counselor

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in education, social science or related mental health area from an accredited institution is required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Experience in public school system, counseling or related area preferred. The ability to relate well to seriously mentally ill/SED individuals and their families is required.

Physical:

  • Minimal exposure to biological hazards.
  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors.
  • Hearing of normal and soft tones.
  • Close eye work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. 
  • Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. 
  • Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.
