Foster Care Specialist

The ideal Foster Care Specialist:

  • Provides on-going assistance to foster parents and the foster youth in the community, ensuring that the children are having their therapeutic, medical and other needs appropriately met.
  • Partners with community resources to benefit child's care, health, and safety.
  • Provides on-going assistance to foster parents on behavioral intervention and assists them in developing plans to address target behaviors.
  • Ensures the child's physical, medical, educational, and clothing needs are met by scheduling and coordinating appointments with providers.
  • Ensures ongoing visits with child's biological parents and siblings, keeping child informed of progress toward reunification with family.

COMPENSATION: Effective 8/1/22 Starting salary for this position is approximately $16.86 /hr based on relevant experience and education.

Scheduling:  Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the clients / provide services. Participation in a 24hr on call service rotation is required.

Travel: An F endorsement is required in order to transport clients as necessary.

Equipment/Technology: Basic computer skills are required for time keeping, email, scheduling, spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (Word), and documenting in the electronic medical record.

QUALIFICATIONS - Foster Care Specialist


  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Prefer one (1) year of pertinent experience in the human services field with children or adolescents. 
  • Volunteer experience and practicum and intern experiences in programs/facilities that work with children and families may be counted as pertinent work experience. 
  • A master's degree in the social services field may be substituted for the one year of work experience.


  • Minimal exposure to biological hazards.
  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors.
  • Hearing of normal and soft tones.
  • Close eye work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Applicants should be able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. 
  • Effective communication skills, strong time management, and organizational skills are necessary to manage day to day job responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. 
  • Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.
