Counselor (Child Development Specialist)

If so, we are currently seeking a qualified and motivated professional for the following position: Therapeutic Preschool Child Development Specialist. 

SUMMARY

The Therapeutic Preschool Child Development Specialist will complete initial intakes into program in a timely manner; maintain trauma-informed and supportive relationships with children enrolled in program and their caregivers; Run psychoeducational groups with children, including managing the group schedule, meals, therapeutic activities, and curriculum; Assist children in learning, developing, and using self-regulation strategies that improve emotion regulation and reduce trauma-related behaviors using trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate interventions; Conduct a timely case needs assessment to determine family wraparound needs and coordinate, monitor, evaluate, and advocate for a package of appropriate services to meet the specific needs of the children and families served; Formulate, in partnership with the caregivers, goal plans for children and their families; Develop community contacts and a thorough knowledge of community resources; Complete case management and support services meeting productivity targets; Assist in tasks that improve overall management of program, including arranging transportation for clients, maintaining program supplies, overseeing interns, and other administrative tasks; Complete documentation of program activities in timely manner and in accordance with program and Center-wide policies.

This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Knowledge: Bachelor's Degree in social services or a related human service field; Training in trauma informed care and child development preferred.

Experience: One year experience providing working with parents with co-occurring disorders and/or children affected by parental substance use preferred.

Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity.  Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation.  Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.

Physical: Hearing of normal and soft tones as well as close eye work. Valid driver's license. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. To ensure the safety of the clients and staff, this position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques (Handle with Care) that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, going down on knees, running, and walking.

COMPENSATION:

Salary range for this position starts at approximately $14.60 per hour depending on relevant experience and education.

The Helen Ross McNabb Center (www.mcnabbcenter.org) is a premier not-for-profit provider of behavioral health services.  The Center provides quality care and serves all ages in a continuum of prevention, early intervention, social, co-occurring, addiction, outpatient, and crisis services.
