The Ideal Knox Home Base Counselor is responsible for providing intensive therapeutic probation services for youth at risk of being placed in DCS custody through Knox County Juvenile Court by:

  • Making appropriate weekly contacts with clients based on level of intensity in the program, ensuring that evidence based curriculum is completed.
  • Conducting bi-monthly groups during evening hours for Home Base clients.
  • Providing adventure based recreational opportunities for clients and families.
  • Providing 24 hours on-call service for youth and families for crisis 7 days per week.
  • Receiving curfew call-ins every night from 9-10pm from all youth on caseload.
  • Conducting random face-to-face curfew checks after 9pm.
  • Drug screening clients according to level of intensity in program.
  • Completing all required court documentation regarding probation compliance, revocations of probation, and requests for attachments for arrest.
  • Completing HRMC intake paperwork, treatment plan and other documentation related to the case in a timely manner. 
  • Meeting regularly with court staff including attorney general, public defender, defense attorneys, court directors, and magistrate for updates on client progress.
  • Partnering with community resources to ensure the success of clients in the Home Base Program, including Knox County Schools, law enforcement representatives, court staff and mental health professionals.
  • Attending all court hearings and CFTMs for Home Base clients. 

*Due to the diversity of job responsibilities, this position requires flexibility in scheduling. 

This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.

REQUIREMENTS - Knox Home Base Counselor

Education/Knowledge: Bachelor's Degree in Social Science or related fields. 

Experience: Experience working with adolescents in social services field is preferred.  Experience working in the court system and providing liaison services with schools and other community resources is also beneficial.

Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity.  Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation.  Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.

Physical: Exposure to biological hazards. Hearing of normal and soft tones as well as close eye work. Valid driver's license. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. To ensure the safety of the clients and staff, this position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques (Handle with Care) that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, going down on knees, running, and walking.

Compensation: Starting salary for this position is approximately $ 14.78 /hr based on relevant experience and education.
