Health Information Technician

SUMMARY

The HIM Technician is responsible for management of client information involving all Center healthcare records, as well as understanding of HIPAA and confidentiality of client records. Provides quality customer service and support for our clients, visitors, and Center personnel. Monitors and orders supplies for department. Assist Supervisor with legal issues regarding client records, applying laws to medical record protection and making court appearances when required by Subpoena/Court Order. Respond to Requests for Records within 10 business days according to Policies & Procedures. Notify Senior Director of Compliance & Quality Systems of any problems, issues, or concerns requiring assistance in supervisor's absence. Process discharge closing summary, files, and error reports.

This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Knowledge: High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of healthcare records management experience preferred. Must be able to operate computer equipment and be proficient in Microsoft Office software products for office productivity, including: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 

Experience: Minimum of one year related experience.

Physical: Lift up to 50 pounds & ability to remove/place items from various levels of shelving, including overhead & stooping. Sensory requirements including normal/corrected vision to allow reading of hand-written and/or type-written information for filing and retrieval of medical records. Normal/aided hearing to hear and/or recognize vocal tones and telephone ringer. Must be able to speak clearly to be able to communicate effectively with others via telephone and face-to-face contact. Additional physical requirements include manual dexterity in order to operate office equipment, such as telephone, computer, copier, fax, and printer. Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.

COMPENSATION:

Salary range for this position starts at approximately $11.77 per hour depending on relevant experience and education.

The Helen Ross McNabb Center (www.mcnabbcenter.org) is a premier not-for-profit provider of behavioral health services.  The Center provides quality care and serves all ages in a continuum of prevention, early intervention, social, co-occurring, addiction, outpatient, and crisis services.
