Licensed Practical Nurse - BHUCC

The Licensed Practical Nurse at BHUCC will provide nursing contact for adults.  Schedule requires 12 hour shifts.  He/she will be responsible for providing health promotion, prevention and wellness management to patients.  The LPN is responsible for the assessment and management of psychotic symptoms and withdrawal symptoms of clients. These include initial medical assessments / intake, providing appropriate nursing care, initiating and adhering to appropriate medical protocol(s).  Demonstrates ethical and appropriate behavior for a clinical environment to include, but not limited to: dignity, patient's rights and privacy, and the maintenance of confidentiality of patient information. The ability to retrieve, communicate, and present data and information both verbally and in electronic medical record. Assist and evaluate the need for emergency transfer to hospital in cases of serious injury, illness.  LPN collaborates with Mobile Crisis assisting with BHUCC client's being referred to higher level of care.  Schedule requires rotating weekends. This is for a day shift position. The schedule will be as follows: 6am - 6pm with rotating days off (week 1 work M-T-F-Sat-Sun with W-Th off, week 2 work W-TH with M-T-F-Sat-Sun off). Regular attendance and punctuality is an essential job function. This position provides shift diff.

This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.


Education/Knowledge: A LPN with current Tennessee license. Experience in psychiatric and substance abuse preferred.  CPR certified or willing to become certified.

Experience: Experience in working with special populations including individuals with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness, Co-Occurring Disorders, and Dual Diagnosis Disorders preferred.  Ability to use computer and electronic medical record.

Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity.  Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. 

Physical: Schedule requires 12 hour shifts. Exposure to biological hazards. Hearing of normal and soft tones. Close eye work. Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 250 lbs. frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Valid driver's license. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout halls, clients' rooms and surrounding facility in response to emergencies.  A significant amount of writing is required. This position requires certification in CPR. To ensure the safety of the clients and staff, this position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques (Handle with Care) that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, and going down on knees, running, and walking.
