The Recovery Counselor serves as a clinical member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing education, rehabilitation, and support for guests of the Living Room. Will assist residents in developing plans of action, support, and discharge. In addition, the Recovery Counselor position is intended to provide hope for clients by offering a variety of therapeutic interventions. Follows-up on client to ensure treatment is being rendered. Triage and crisis assessments completed as needed. Regular attendance, being awake and alert are essential job functions.
This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
Education/Knowledge: A Master's degree in a health-related field of counseling, psychology, social work, sociology and experience working with individuals with mental illness and/or co-occurring diagnoses. Preferred Master's level licensed or license eligible clinician.
Experience: Must have course work and or experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, etiology and treatment of mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, trauma, suicide risk assessment/prevention/intervention, and crisis intervention. Must have experience in working with special populations including individuals with Severe and Persistent Mental Illnesses and Co-Occurring Disorders. Computer experience is helpful. Experience working in a crisis setting and lived experience are preferable.
Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. Must possess a valid TN Driver's license and be able to utilize personal vehicle in the exercise of job duties.
Physical: Possible exposure to biological hazards. Hearing of normal and soft tones as well as close eye work. Valid driver's license. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. To ensure the safety of the clients and staff, this position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques (Handle with Care) that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, going down on knees, running, and walking. Mandatory to remain awake and alert during shift to monitor client safety.
Salary range for this position starts at approximately $41,517 annually depending on relevant experience and education.
