The PRN Emergency Department Master's Level Clinician works within UT Medical Center including the Emergency Department to assist in triaging patients, providing psychiatric assessments, and providing referral options. Liaisons with Emergency Department staff and provides identified information to attending physicians and providers. Completes face-to-face assessments of patients experiencing a psychiatric emergency to determine level of services needed and facilitates referral-related activities to link patients with needed services.

Schedule: This position is "as needed".  Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the program / clients.

Travel:  This position does not involve travel or transporting of clients.

Equipment/Technology: Competency in utilizing mainstream email and computer processing programs and to learn and utilize electronic medical records systems. Familiarity with various office equipment such as fax machines, telephones, and copiers. Ability to utilize personal protective gear as required by UT Medical Center.

QUALIFICATIONS - PRN ED Master's Level Clinician

Education: A Master's degree in a health-related field of counseling, psychology, social work, or closely related field, and experience working with individuals with mental illness and/or co-occurring diagnoses. Preferred Master's level licensed or license eligible clinician.

Experience / Knowledge: Must have course work and/or experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, etiology and treatment of mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse, suicide, and crisis intervention. Must have experience in working with special populations including individuals with Severe and Persistent Mental Illnesses and Co-Occurring Disorders.

Physical:

  • Minimal exposure to biological hazards.
  • Hearing of normal/soft tones and close eye work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (training provided).
  • Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Applicants should be able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Clinical staff may be required to get an F endorsement to transport clients as necessary.
