The PRN Milieu Counselor must answer crisis hotline calls, maintain a safe and comfortable living environment for shelter residents, provide support using trauma informed techniques, and maintain the order and cleanliness of the facility.


  • This position is "as needed".  
  • Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the program. 
  • Evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays may be required. 


  • F endorsement is required. 

Equipment/Technology: Basic computer skills are required for email, timekeeping, and documentation in the electronic medical record.



  • High school diploma or G.E.D. 
  • Must complete a 40 hour orientation along with 12 hours of on-the-job training.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Minimum of one year experience in the human service field
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, mental illness, trauma, or crisis
  • Knowledge of available community resources.


  • Minimal exposure to biological hazards.
  • Hearing of normal/soft tones and close eye work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (training provided).
  • Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Applicants should be able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Clinical staff may be required to get an F endorsement to transport clients as necessary.
