Do you see yourself as a part of this life-changing work? If so, we are currently seeking a qualified and motivated professional for the following position: ED Crisis Response Certified Peer Support Specialist

The Ideal Certified Peer Support Specialist is responsible for leading education, socialization, empowerment, self-advocacy, and support themed individual and group activities. This position is part of the ED Crisis Response team at East Tennessee Children's Hospital (ETCH). Position will promote recovery as part of the support services offered to those experiencing a behavioral health crisis.  

COMPENSATION: Starting salary for this position is approximately $13.27 /hr based on relevant experience and education.

Scheduling:  This position provides services Monday-Friday during regular business hours, though some flexibility in scheduling work hours during the week is required to meet the needs of the program's clients.

Travel: This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment. An "F" endorsement is required.

Equipment/Technology: This position requires the use of computer skills with an electronic medical record (EMR), and telehealth/televideo services may be offered as part of the service delivery. Staff will be expected to maintain work with a Center cell phone and computer.

QUALIFICATIONS - Client Benefits Liaison


  • Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, be a State of Tennessee Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, or have completed the following to be eligible for state certification:
  1.   Attended the 5 day training facilitated by State Certified Trainers
  2.   Gained 75 hours of work or volunteer experience in Peer Recovery services

 Experience / Knowledge:

  • Must be a primary mental health consumer with appropriate life experience and a desire to be a role model for recovery.  Experience in peer counseling is required. Some experience in customer service helpful.  Must pass a drug screen and background check.  Must have a valid Driver's License. 


  • Minimal exposure to biological hazards..
  • Hearing of normal and soft tones.
  • Close eye work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Applicants should be able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. 
  • Effective communication skills, strong time management, and organizational skills are necessary to manage day to day job responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. 
  • Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.
