Education Specialist

The Ideal Education Specialist is responsible for:

  • the implementation of the Sexual Assault Center of East Tennessee's sexual assault and sexual abuse education and outreach programming
  • facilitates education, outreach and victim services to sexual assault victims and other professionals providing direct support to victims to meet the needs of clients and the community
  • presents personal safety, resources, and victimization training youth and young adults ages 13
  • provides outreach to victims in the community as well as other service providers through attendance at various coalition/community meetings, health fairs, and various outreach opportunities to enhance services and resources for clients
  • participates in the continuous improvement process of curriculum implementation by working collaboratively with the Education Team Leader
  • maintains data related to specific grant expectations

COMPENSATION: Effective 8/1/22 Starting salary for this position is approximately $15.47 /hr based on relevant experience and education.

Schedule:  This position will mostly occur during business hours, but a flexible schedule is preferred as some events may occur after 5 pm and on weekends. This position is part time.

Travel: Travel is required throughout Knox and surrounding counties.

Equipment/Technology: Basic computer skills are required 

QUALIFICATIONS - Education Specialist

Education/Knowledge

  • Must have a bachelor's degree and basic knowledge in health-related field of counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, or a behavioral science field with course work or experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, etiology and treatment of mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse, suicide, crisis intervention, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. 
  • A working knowledge of sexual abuse services is preferred.

Experience

  • Knowledge in victim services/teaching experience is preferred.

Physical:

  • Minimal exposure to biological hazards.
  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors.
  • Hearing of normal and soft tones.
  • Close eye work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Applicants should be able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. 
  • Effective communication skills, strong time management, and organizational skills are necessary to manage day to day job responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. 
  • Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.
