The Systems Administrator
JOB SUMMARY:
- This hybrid role combines system administration and project management responsibilities.
- The Project Manager and Systems Administrator will be accountable for the design, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the organization's IT infrastructure, with a focus on Microsoft 365 and VMware environments.
- Additionally, the role requires managing IT-related projects, coordinating cross-functional teams, timelines, and ensuring the successful deployment of new systems and upgrades.
SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION DUTIES:
- Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of Windows and Linux systems, servers, and virtualization.
- Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.
- Administer Microsoft 365, including user management, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and security configurations.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing the impact of issues.
- Perform regular backup operations, implement disaster recovery and failover procedures.
- Capacity and storage planning and database performance management.
- Ensure high-level security and efficiency for all systems, ensuring 100% uptime.
- Document all processes and procedures in the IT manual.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, infrastructure expansions, and other key initiatives, with a focus on Microsoft 365 and VMware environments.
- Develop project scopes, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring stakeholder involvement and approval.
- Manage project timelines, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
- Coordinate internal and external resources, including vendor management and third-party service providers.
- Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation plans, and monitor progress against project milestones.
- Provide regular project status updates to IT leadership and key stakeholders.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the configuration of shared folders and network printers.
- Manage virtual machines (VMs) and delegate tasks to qualified staff or Managed Service Providers (MSPs).
- Oversee Active Directory management, ensuring adherence to organizational policy.
- Perform audits of user accounts, security settings, and system status.
- Ensure applications are updated and functional in coordination with development teams.
- Tier 3 support for complex helpdesk issues.

COMPENSATION:
- Starting salary for this position is approximately $62,343/yr based on relevant experience and education.
QUALIFICATIONS - Systems Administrator
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred (Associates degree with significant experience also considered).
- Advanced knowledge of information technology operations required.
Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or similar) is highly desirable. Ideally, the applicant will hold certifications in the following:
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
- CompTIA Server
- VMware Certified Professional 6 - Data Center Virtualization
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator or Enterprise Administrator
Experience / Knowledge:
- Minimum of three years' experience with Windows operating systems administration, including remote monitoring, support, replication, desktop integrations, data recovery, system backups, LDAP, DHCP, Active Directory, and file/print server maintenance.
- Strong experience in Microsoft Office 365 administration, including managing users, groups, SharePoint, and Exchange Online.
- Proven experience in managing IT projects, coordinating multiple stakeholders, timelines, and resources to ensure successful completion.
- Experience with VMware infrastructure, virtual machines, and Linux system management is a plus.
- Experience with IT Service Management (ITSM), including helpdesk management and ticketing systems.
Physical:
- Normal IT operations environment.
- Normal/corrected eyesight and hearing.
- Uses office equipment, such as computers, calculators, copiers.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. in a busy environment with multiple distractions.
