Compliance and Quality Systems Coordinator

SUMMARY

The Compliance & Quality Systems Services Coordinator will be responsible for oversight of departmental activities including:  Federal, State, and Payer Regulatory Compliance, responsible for ensuring the organization's compliance with all regulatory requirements. Provides oversight of internal and external auditing activities. Acts as a liaison between Tennessee Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS), Department of Children's Services (DCS), Fire Marshalls, Auditors and other regulatory bodies to achieve organizational goals and problem-solve solutions.  Responsible for notifications to TDMHSAS regarding services changes, critical incidents, annual renewals, etc. Participates as a member of the New Services Implementation Committee. Oversight of HIPAA privacy assessments to monitor for adherence to best-practices.  Ensures that required signage is posted and maintained in accordance with applicable laws and policies.  Oversight of Title VI compliance activities.  Ensures that compliance trainings and materials meet regulatory requirements. 

Accreditation. Responsible for assisting the Compliance & Quality Systems Services Coordinator in preparing for and coordinating CARF accreditation surveys and related activities.  Ensures organization's adoption and adherence to standards.  Acts as a liaison between the organization and CARF representatives. Responsible for notifications to CARF regarding service changes, critical incidents, survey preparation, etc.  Plans for and carries out activities to ensure a successful survey.  Attends CARF continuing education to remain up to date on standards and best practices. 

Risk Management. Assists in managing the organization's risk exposure. Manages the organization's incident database. Develops and analyzes reports for use in Risk Management and Quality Assurance & Improvement committees. Participates as a member of the Risk Management Committee. Acts as a knowledge-expert to committees regarding regulatory and accreditation standards/practices. Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures to mitigate risk exposure for the organization.

Supervisory Oversight. Manages a team of 2-4 compliance & quality systems specialist positions. Ensures staff completion of compliance & quality systems job duties. Provides regular supervision to staff. Conducts performance evaluations and reviews job descriptions at least annually. Assists Compliance & Quality Systems Services Coordinator in the development and attainment of departmental goals. Ensures staff completion of required training. Maintains a quality improvement focus and actively participates in and encourages improvement efforts. Sets a positive example for staff by adhering to all policies and procedures, creating a positive working environment, and encouraging staff to reach their full potential. 

Professionalism. Ensures success by maintaining a high degree of professionalism. Recognized as an informed contributor by direct reports, peers, superiors, and other stakeholders. Completes assignments by required deadlines. Takes initiative and brings own unique strengths to enrich projects and activities. Considers audience to ensure effective communication in both written and oral communication. This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/KnowledgeMaster's degree required, knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific regulations and policies, knowledge of corporate compliance program activities, knowledge of accreditation standards, knowledge of quality improvement best-practices, ability to interpret policies and regulations,  ability to manage a team and ensure achievement of department goals, strong oral and written communication skills, strong critical thinking skills, proficiency in MS Office Suite required, must have a high degree of professionalism, must be highly organized and detailed, must be able to work well in a team-based setting as well as independently.

ExperienceThree or more years of experience in a healthcare compliance related field preferred.  Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Physical: Ability to hear normal voice and ring tones, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reach above shoulder height, pulling/pushing, lifting/carrying under 25 pounds, stair climbing, driving/traveling.
