PRN FCC Youth Activities Counselor

The PRN FCC Youth Activities Counselor will work directly with children and youth at the FCC Domestic Violence Shelter: 

  • Trained as a positive male mentor, the PRN FCC Youth Activities Counselor, will serve as the activity leader for children. 
  • Provide support to the youth living in shelter through mentorship, tutoring, safety planning, exhibiting and discussing positive behavior. 
  • Additionally, this position will assist in developing children and adolescents' self-esteem, confidence and healthy coping skills. 
  • Coordinates and works closely with area schools, after-school programs/clubs, and other youth providers. 
  • Maintains file records and client information in a confidential manner.  
  • Embraces key values of advocacy: empowerment, normalization, rehabilitation, and continuity of care.

Scheduling:  As needed - Must be available evenings and weekends.

Travel: F endorsement is required

Equipment/Technology: Basic computer skills are required for email, time keeping, and documentation in the electronic medical record.

QUALIFICATIONS - FCC Youth Activities Counselor

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Bachelor's degree in social services or related field with course work or experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, etiology and treatment of mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse, suicide, and crisis intervention preferred.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Experience/ knowledge/front line service delivery in domestic violence or other victim services is preferred. 
  • Survivors of violence and those exposed to domestic violence are encouraged to apply. 
  • Due to the dynamics of domestic violence and therapeutic needs of the children, we are seeking male applicants for this position.

Physical:

  • Minimal exposure to biological hazards.
  • Hearing of normal to soft tones and close eye work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Applicants should be able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.
