The Ideal Residential Counselor will be responsible for:

  • ·  supervision of clients
  • ·  administration of the program rules and level system
  • ·  facilitation of a therapeutic, positive and safe milieu
  • ·  supportive listening to clients individually and in group settings

COMPENSATION: Starting salary for this position is approximately $13.20 /hr based on relevant experience and education for HS Diploma and $15.99 / hr based on relevant experience and education for Bachelor's level.  A shift differential of 5% will be applied for 2nd shift and 10% for 3rd shift.

Scheduling: Gateway is a 24/7 356 program that requires weekends, holidays, evening, and overnight shifts.

Travel: This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment. "F" endorsement is required. Must be able to provide transportation as needed.

Equipment/Technology: This position requires the use of computer skills with an electronic medical record (EMR), e-mail, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

QUALIFICATIONS - Gateway Residential Counselor

Education:

  • A High School Diploma is required. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in psychology or a related field is preferred.

 Experience / Knowledge:

  • Working with children/youth/families. 
  • One year of residential experience preferred or exposure via internship. 
  • Understanding of the expectations of DCS/DOE.

Physical:

  • Minimal exposure to biological hazards.
  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors.
  •  Hearing of normal and soft tones.
  • Close eye work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal and physical de-escalation techniques.
  • Applicants should be able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. 
  • Effective communication skills, strong time management, and organizational skills are necessary to manage day to day job responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. 
  • Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.
